Another challenge was the vertical sight distance
problem for the northbound Florida Avenue traffic,
created by the widened bridge above. The signals
had to be mounted to the bridge endwall in order to
provide adequate sight distance for the signal heads
on this busy one-way thoroughfare.

The signal plans for this job had to be integrated with
the bridge design plans for this major FDOT project,
done by Parsons Brinckerhoff.
This was definitely one of the most challenging signals we have ever designed. The I-275 bridge above was being
widened and Scott
Street down below had to be narrowed by one lane on account of this. Because the Florida
Blueprint Building on the opposite side of the bridge abutted the existing right-of-way, there was no choice but to
cantilever the mast arm from the cheekwall of the bridge abutment.
